Monitoring breaches at Rossmore Landfill Site (Carrigtwohill) totally unacceptable
Karen Doyle, Independents for Change candidate in the Cobh Local Electoral Area has accused Cork County Council operators of a Landfill Site at Rossmore near Carrigtwohill of playing fast and easy with the lives and safety of local people following reports that major shortcomings were discovered at the site.

Ms. Doyle said the discovery that important electronic equipment for the monitoring of gases and leachate at the site had been out of order for more than two year was completely unacceptable. She said that while the breaches were discovered by Environmental Protection Agency inspectors, they should have been found much earlier if proper monitoring and oversight was in place.
She said: “It seems incredible that blatant breaches in monitoring protocol and the failure to flare off potentially dangerous gasses such as methane could go so long undiscovered. It does not inspire confidence in either Cork County Council or the Environmental Protection Agency given that these are bodies task with protecting the general public if they can’t get their own act in order”
